The World Intellectual Property Day was celebrated at ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research (DWR), Jabalpur on 02 May 2025. The program focused on the relevance of Intellectual Property (IP) management in agricultural research. The event featured lectures, panel discussions, and presentations. Dr. P.K. Singh, Principal Scientist and In-charge of the Institute Technology Management Unit (ITMU), warmly welcomed all the guests, scientists, technical officers, staff, and students. He elaborated on the history and significance of World Intellectual Property Day in detail. He further explained that the purpose of celebrating World Intellectual Property Day is to raise awareness about the role of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in encouraging innovation and creativity.
Dr. J.S. Mishra, Director, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur highlighted the institute’s efforts in IP management and emphasized the critical role of intellectual property in agriculture and agribusiness management. He stressed the importance of World Intellectual Property Day in promoting research, fostering innovation, and protecting the rights of inventors. The keynote speaker, Dr. Yogita Gharde, Senior Scientist, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur, shared her knowledge on patents, copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs, geographical indications (GI tags), trade secrets, and IP filing. She presented key points of IPR issues through various case studies. She also provided information on online e-filing of IP applications, demonstrating the efficiency and accessibility of contemporary IP filing processes.
Following the presentation, a panel discussion was held on various intellectual property topics. Scientists, officers, staff, and students of the institute actively participated in the event (70 participants) and shared their experiences. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. P.K. Singh, Principal Scientist and In-charge, ITMU.
